The agreement, signed by Yao Ming, chairman of the Yao Foundation, and Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, CEO of the HKJC, aims to support China's goal of becoming a leading sports nation while enhancing the sports industry's growth.
Both organizations share a commitment to using sports to improve young people's physical and mental health, foster social unity, and promote holistic growth through education and athletic participation.
The HKJC, known for its dedication to community betterment, has pledged HK$3 billion over the next three years to expand sports support at grassroots and elite levels.
In basketball specifically, the club has allocated over HK$70 million to its Believe & Bounce program, making the sport more accessible to students and underprivileged groups.
Additional efforts include backing 3-on-3 basketball training for youth, funding upgrades to facilities like Southorn Stadium, and supporting various community programs that encourage young people to engage in sports.
This collaboration is expected to lead to new joint initiatives and exchanges focused on strengthening basketball in communities across Hong Kong and beyond.
