More than 50 people were evacuated after a fire broke out at a supermarket kitchen in Ma On Shan on Tuesday morning, sending thick smoke through parts of a shopping mall. No injuries were reported.
The blaze erupted at around 7.47am at Ma On Shan Plaza, with smoke filling sections of the mall and rising into the air along Sai Sha Road.
The Fire Services Department responded swiftly, deploying a water jet and a breathing apparatus team. The fire was brought under control by about 8.13am.
Sources said the fire was believed to have originated from a kitchen air blower inside the supermarket.
Approximately 50 people were evacuated safely as a precautionary measure. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
