Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu will pay a duty visit to Beijing from next Monday to Wednesday (Dec 17), during which he will brief state leaders on the latest economic, social and political developments in Hong Kong.
The visit comes three weeks after the deadly Tai Po fire, which claimed at least 160 lives. Lee has said he will report to Chinese President Xi Jinping and other state leaders on the government’s response to the incident.
He will also brief them on the collective efforts of Hong Kong society in disaster relief and support for affected residents following the blaze.
President Xi has previously expressed concern over the tragedy and conveyed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives, as well as to the firefighter who died in the line of duty.
The Director of the Chief Executive’s Office, Carol Yip Man-kuen, and the Private Secretary to the Chief Executive, Queenie Wong Ting-chi, will accompany Lee on the visit.
