Liaison office chief visits fire victims for Wang Fuk Court tragedy

The No 5 alarm Wang Fuk Court fire in Tai Po resulted in 44 deaths, over 70 injuries and 279 people unaccounted for.

Zhou Ji, the director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's government in the city, visited the disaster victims at the temporary shelter.

Accompanied by the deputy director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council Nong Rong, Zhou was seen holding a fire victim's hand to comfort her with words.

The Liaison Office said an emergency task force has been established and is working continuously overnight to monitor the rescue situation of the tragedy closely. 

It has maintained close communication with the HKSAR government and coordinated with relevant departments to provide necessary assistance, fully supporting the SAR government in responding to and handling the fire rescue.
