Two hikers fall ill with suspected heatstroke at Po Pin Chau

Three hikers in Hong Kong were reported to have suffered suspected heatstroke on Sunday, with two incidents occurring at Po Pin Chau within two hours and a third in Tai Po.

Emergency services responded to two separate suspected heatstroke cases at Po Pin Chau, resulting in one hiker being airlifted to hospital.

The first case was reported at around 12.10pm, when police received information that a hiker had fallen ill near the viewing platform by the High Island Reservoir East Dam. A Government Flying Service helicopter was dispatched, and the patient, believed to be in his 20s, was flown to Ruttonjee Hospital for treatment.

At approximately 1.30pm, a second report indicated that a 57-year-old man was suffering from dizziness and vomiting in the same area, also suspected to be heatstroke.

Firefighters assisted the man, who was conscious and accompanied by friends, down the mountain. He reportedly declined hospital treatment and left the scene.

Separately, a man in his 40s reported heatstroke symptoms while hiking the Plover Cove Reservoir country trail in Tai Po at around 1pm. He was subsequently taken to hospital.

The suspected heatstroke cases coincided with a "very hot weather" warning issued by the Observatory this morning. Temperatures in Sai Kung and Tai Po reached 33 degrees Celsius by noon.
