In a scramble for a seat on the MTR, a man resorted to shining his phone’s flashlight at a mother who was defending her three children from being forced out of their seats.
The incident reportedly began when the man squeezed onto a bench already occupied by the children, causing them to feel frightened and stand up.
The mother later took to social media to condemn the man’s behaviour, recounting that when she confronted him, he defiantly replied, “What’s the problem with me?”
Although he eventually stood up, he escalated the situation by turning his phone’s flashlight on the woman and her children.
Photos and videos shared online show the mother trying to shield herself from the light by shifting her position.
However, some netizens questioned her account, noting that the available footage did not capture the full context of the incident and suggested there might be more to the story.
In response, the mother clarified that the initial confrontation happened too quickly to record and emphasised that she had no intention of fabricating details.
“They were eager to sit down as soon as they boarded and spotted the space next to the children,” she added.
The post has since sparked heated debate online, with many condemning the man’s actions as unacceptable.
“If he kept this up after being warned, I’d have pressed the button to call the train captain — staff would be waiting for him at the next station,” one commenter wrote.
When others suggested she should have contacted the authorities, the mother said she chose not to escalate the matter further since the man had stopped arguing.
