The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) reported one new imported case of Chikungunya fever on Thursday (Oct 23), involving a 52-year-old man living in Sau Mau Ping South Estate, Kwun Tong.
Preliminary investigation found the man had travelled alone to Foshan, Guangdong Province, from October 17 to 21.
He developed joint pain on October 21 and later sought medical attention at a private hospital and the Kwun Tong Family Medicine Integrated Centre. His blood sample tested positive for the Chikungunya virus, and he has been hospitalized in a mosquito-free environment in stable condition.
His wife, identified as a household contact, has shown no symptoms but is under medical surveillance.
As the patient had visited Guangdong during the incubation period, the case has been classified as an imported infection. The CHP said it has informed Guangdong health authorities and will continue its epidemiological investigation.
Hong Kong has now recorded 43 confirmed Chikungunya cases this year, all imported. One patient has died, while the others experienced mild symptoms.
