Bomb disposal hero gains popularity among Indonesian domestic helpers

An ethnic Chinese Indonesian bomb disposal expert has garnered considerable attention among Indonesian domestic workers following his participation in a recent anti-fraud seminar.

The surge in popularity emerged after a 1,000-pound wartime bomb was discovered at a construction site in Quarry Bay last month, necessitating the evacuation of approximately 6,000 individuals. 

Senior bomb disposal officer Suryanto Chin Chiu was responsible for briefings to the media regarding the incident, during which his team successfully neutralized the device after an arduous nine-hour operation. 

His achievements resonated with Indonesian netizens, particularly due to the name "Suryanto" displayed on his uniform, which instilled a sense of pride in many Indonesians regarding his accomplishment in defusing the substantial wartime explosive.

Suryanto recently attended an anti-fraud seminar tailored for Indonesian domestic workers on Sunday (Oct 12). During the event, he provided vital information and strategies to over one hundred attendants, urging them to remain vigilant against potential scams, articulated in the Indonesian language. Attendees expressed enthusiasm, eagerly requesting photographs with him.
