Maryan Pascual Esteban, 40, had worked four years in Hong Kong and was preparing to return home December 16 to celebrate Christmas and her father's birthday. Her father said the family remains devastated, recalling their final conversation where she discussed homecoming plans.

The Philippine government described Esteban as a heroine who died while caring for her employer's five-year-old daughter. Authorities will provide financial assistance and repatriate her remains while ensuring educational support for her son through college.
Hong Kong's labour chief confirmed 10 foreign domestic helpers died in the blaze with three injured, with families receiving approximately HK$800,000 compensation per deceased victim. The Philippine Consulate reported 92 of its citizens safe, one hospitalized and one confirmed dead from the fire.
