Tseung Kwan O Hospital's patient data breach case is now suspected to involve internal power struggles, with reports indicating a consultant doctor has resigned and been arrested by police.
The hospital confirmed Sunday that an employee allegedly accessed and leaked patient information including addresses and phone numbers without authorization, potentially violating criminal laws and professional ethics.
The incident appears connected to a recent episode of TVB's current affairs program "Scoop", featuring a complaint about a female patient who died following an endoscopic ultrasound procedure.

The patient's son claimed on air that the operating doctor admitted to errors during a secretly recorded meeting, stating "this was an acute situation, and I don't deny that my mistake caused the bleeding problem." Anonymous letters were subsequently sent to the family suggesting similar incidents had occurred multiple times under the same surgeon.
Police investigation revealed the leaked documents originated from a consultant doctor and associate consultant who allegedly accessed the deceased patient's records without authorization. The hospital maintains the death resulted from surgical complications rather than medical malpractice, though the case has been referred to both law enforcement and the Medical Council for further review.
