Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law Shuk-pui congratulated foil fencer Ryan Choi Chun-yin on winning Hong Kong's first-ever gold medal in the Fencing World Championships in Georgia.
Choi triumphed over individual neutral athlete Kirill Borodachev in the Men's Foil Individual event with a score of 15:9 on Wednesday.
The sports chief said Choi has demonstrated Hong Kong athletes' charm and perseverance as he made an impressive performance in the competition.
"I have faith in them (Hong Kong China fencing team) to perform spectacularly again in the 15th National Games to be held in November," Law added.
