Ekin Cheng wins award as 'Last Song For You' premieres at New York film fest

Hong Kong actor Ekin Cheng Yee-kin was honored with the prestigious Star Asia Award at the New York Asian Film Festival, where his romance film Last Song For You – part of a 10-film Hong Kong Panorama series – held its North American premiere.

His co-star, Natalie Hsu En-yi, received the Screen International Rising Star Award, spotlighting her breakout performance.

The series, supported by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York, features 10 diverse films spanning romantic comedies, crime thrillers, and action dramas.

Ahead of the awards ceremony, the office hosted a reception welcoming Hong Kong filmmakers.

The office's director Maisie Ho Mei-chi noted that over half of the selected films made their North American premieres at the festival, underscoring Hong Kong cinema’s enduring creativity, inspiration, and cross-border appeal.

Four films marked directorial debuts – Jill Leung’s Last Song For You, Jack Lai’s Possession Street, Trevor Choi’s Smashing Frank, and Jeffrey Lam's and Antonio Tam’s Valley of the Shadow of Death.
