The incident occurred at approximately 8.45am when a female resident at Lok Shing House of Tsz Lok Estate reported that a fire had started after she lit scented candles inside her home.
Unable to extinguish the flames herself, she called for emergency assistance. Firefighters arrived promptly and managed to bring the blaze under control within 36 minutes.
Footage captured by residents showed thick black smoke billowing from the mid-level unit where the fire originated. Police preliminary investigations suggest that the flames were accidentally ignited after the scented candles set nearby items alight.
Two residents—a 54-year-old woman surnamed Cheung and a 93-year-old man surnamed Leung—were treated for smoke inhalation and transported to the hospital for further examination.
