Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will attend the signing ceremony of the Convention on the Establishment of the International Organization for Mediation in Hong Kong next Friday (May 30), the Foreign Ministry announced today.
Beijing did not reveal whether Wang will have other schedules in the city after the ceremony.
The Old Wan Chai Police Station will be turned into the headquarters of the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed). IOMed is the world's first intergovernmental international legal organization dedicated to resolving international disputes through mediation, aiming to realize win-win cooperation between disputing parties.
The SAR government noted that the IOMed headquarters in Hong Kong will manifest the city's unique advantages in international mediation.
It added that the plan also demonstrates the nation's staunch support in establishing the strategic positioning of Hong Kong as a regional center for international legal and dispute resolution services under the National Five-Year Plan and the Outline Development Plan for Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
