Hustle and bustle will be in Cheung Chau as people prepare for the upcoming Piu Sik Parade that will be held on Wednesday (May 15), themed around the waste charge schemes and anti-scam messages.
With a few days to go until the Buddha's Birthday celebration, the Kai-Fong Association held a final rehearsal for the parade's child stars.
The Cheung Chau Wei Hoi Luk Clansmen Association has prepared two piu sik sets based on the waste charge scheme and the anti-scam news.
The "leaders" for the set will be the Environmental Protection Department officials and the landlord - who represent the citizens.
After the legislation of Article 23 of the Basic Law, the chairman of the Association Anil Kwong Sai-loi said there was no interference from the authorities in this year's creation.
He said satirizing current affairs was not the focus but reminding the government to listen to the public.
Kwong said there is still confusion regarding the waste charge scheme, and the Association hopes the government will explain the policy more clearly so the citizens won't cross the line.
A master with 30 years of experience specializing in costumes created colorful paintings with three themes and a motor-driven fishing boat to pray for good weather during the parade.
The master, surnamed Lee, said it was challenging to install small props that fit the theme to cover the steel frames - such as ladders - that are holding the children.
It took two weeks for him to hide the steel frames with thin bamboo strips.
