Bad weather and damaged equipment push Mayday concert to next Thu

A concert by popular Taiwan band Mayday scheduled on Wednesday night has been postponed to next Thursday due to bad weather and damaged equipment, including a gigantic LED sphere installation suspended in the air that caught fire. 

The installation caught fire about 2.34 pm on the open stage situated on the Central Harbourfront and firefighters were soon called to the scene to put out the blaze. 

No injuries have been reported and firefighters are still investigating the cause of the fire. 

Later at 5.15 pm, organizer Unusual Productions (China) Ltd announced on Facebook that since some of the stage equipment was damaged due to the adverse weather last night (Tue), it has decided to postpone tonight’s concert to next Thursday (May 9) after a thorough assessment. 

The arrangement is to ensure the safety of the audience, the staff and the band, the organizer said, calling on fans to understand. 

Unusual extended deep apologies to the audience and said citizens who hold the May 1 ticket can go to the May 9 concert or ask for an unconditional refund. 

Relevant details will be announced in due course after discussions with relevant parties, Unusual added. 

The organizer also reminded citizens not to come tonight and to keep their tickets.
