Woman's hair catches fire from burst manhole cover

A manhole cover burst into the air and sparked a woman's hair ablaze in San Po Kong on Thursday afternoon.

Around 3 pm today, a female pedestrian was walking along the junction of Hong Keung Street and Shung Ling Street when the manhole cover suddenly burst up, sparking a small ember that settled in the woman's hair and set it alight.

Rescue workers were called to the scene, and the woman was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for medical attention.

The firefighters and gas company arrived at the scene to investigate the cause of the incident, with firefighters seen deploying a water jet towards the manhole cover.

Police officers cordoned off the nearby area to prevent further incidents.
