The 31st Macao International Fireworks Display Contest is a marquee event that is set to illuminate the autumn night sky with a vibrant showcase of exploding colors, showering designs and booming symphonies. Held annually since 1989, this year’s highly-anticipated contest will take place on Saturdays – on 9, 16, 23 September and 7 October, as well as on 1 October, China’s National Day – at the Sea Area in front of the iconic Macau Tower.

As an annual must-see in Macao, top fireworks teams from over 10 countries – including Australia, Switzerland, Austria, Russia, Philippines, Japan, China, Portugal, United Kingdom, and Germany – will engage in a friendly competition, showcasing their immaculate skills and creating breathtaking displays of bursting colors, cascading waterfalls of light, and choreographed illuminated fantasies set to music. Get ready for some serious fun in Macao on 27 September as the city celebrates World Tourism Day and the annual Tray Race. This year’s festival theme highlights the need for green investments in people, planet and prosperity. And no event gets locals and visitors more excited than the traditional hair-raising Tray Race.

Organized by Macao Government Tourism Office, the Tray Race will take runners from the Ruins of St. Paul’s all the way to Senado Square, while they balance a bottle of Macao Beer on a tray. Divided into male and female categories, the exhilarating event sees competitors from top hotels and restaurants sprint through scenic routes with prizes given to winners and those with the best costumes showcasing this year’s theme of ‘Macao Courtesy’. Melodies abound

This year’s 35th Macao International Music Festival is set to enchant audiences with an incredible array of performances. From 30 September to 30 October, the festival is themed ‘Melodic Reconnections’ to spotlight both renowned artists and rising stars across diverse genres. Featuring 16 eclectic programmes and 14 outreach activities, audiences can pick and choose from the vibrant sounds of opera, jazz, Chinese classics, and more!

Highlights include Gioachino Rossini’s classic opera ‘The Barber of Seville’, opening the festival in dramatic fashion. Later, legendary film composer Joe Hisaishi makes his debut, conducting haunting scores from ‘Spirited Away’. Additionally, renowned conductor Long Yu leads the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra in Western masterworks.
