Hang Seng Index jumps by midday on first trading day of 2026

Hong Kong stocks rallied by midday on the first trading day of 2026.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index jumped by 559 points, or 2.2 percent to 26,189 points by noon. The half-day market turnover was HK$76.9 billion. 

The Hang Seng Tech Index grew 3.4 percent to 5,702 points at noon. 

The best performer among blue chip stocks was Baidu (9888), whose shares went up 7.5 percent
