James Shing Pan-yu, former executive of Asia Television (ATV), has passed away at the age of 48 after fighting against liver cancer.
His wife, Michelle Chua, announced the news in the early hours of Monday, revealing that he died peacefully at Hong Kong Sanatorium and Hospital, surrounded by family.
Shing was diagnosed with liver cancer in June this year and had been receiving intensive care in the ICU. Despite his determined battle, his condition deteriorated rapidly.
His wife had previously shared updates on his health, mentioning that their twin children often cried during hospital visits.
In her announcement, Chua described her husband’s final moments as serene and painless.
“To all our dear friends and family, our light, James Shing, passed away peacefully at 12.37am on August 18, 2025, in the arms of his loved ones at Hong Kong Sanatorium and Hospital after 48 precious years,” she wrote. “He departed with a gentle smile, his face calm, as if resting among the clouds, free from suffering.”
Shing's funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.
