HSBC Hong Kong's pre-tax profit up 5 percent last year

HSBC’s (0005) Hong Kong businesses logged a 5 percent increase in pre-tax profit to US$9.6 billion last year, accounting for more than 32 percent of the group’s total. 

UK businesses also saw profit before taxes climb by nearly 2 percent to US$6.7 billion on a reported basis. Pre-tax profit for the corporate and institutional banking segment, the biggest source, stayed flat at US$11.4 billion in the year. 

By legal entities, the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation’s pre-tax profit fell by 4.3 percent to US$19.6 billion, taking up around 65.5 percent of the group’s figure.
