BYD global June sales rebound 5.5pc as exports offset domestic slump

BYD (1211) posted a rebound in global sales for June as a surge in exports helped offset a broader first-half slump, according to a company announcement on Wednesday.  

Total monthly sales rose 5.5 percent year-on-year to 403,472 units, softening a six-month decline that dragged year-to-date volume down 15.72 percent to 1.81 million units.  

The performance was heavily supported by overseas sales, which jumped 94.7 percent to 175,349 units, masking a 22 percent drop in the domestic market.

Growth was also fueled by plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, which saw June sales rise 14.7 percent to 195,820 units, offsetting a 2.6 percent dip in battery electric vehicles.
