Manulife (International) said it has become the first insurer to complete re-domiciliation to Hong Kong under the company re-domiciliation regime.
This underscores Manulife’s confidence in Hong Kong’s role as a leading international financial center and reinforces its long-standing commitment to the market, the company said in a statement on Friday.
By establishing its legal domicile locally, Manulife aims to enhance operational efficiency, respond more swiftly to market needs, and unlock new growth opportunities across the region, it said.
Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury Christopher Hui Ching-yu on Friday met Manulife Asia president Steve Finch and Manulife Hong Kong and Macau chief Patrick Graham when they held in-depth discussions on the insurer’s long-term development plans in Hong Kong, according to Hui’s Facebook post.
Since the company re-domiciliation regime came into effect at the end of May this year, the government has received more than 20 applications and approved four applications, the post said.
