Cathay Pacific to compete for quarantine camps meal provider

Cathay Pacific Catering Service Limited, a subsidiary of the airline, had placed a bid to compete in providing meals to quarantine centers. 

Cathay Pacific confirmed that they received an invitation from the quarantine camps on May 13 to place a bid to compete for the quarantine center meal provider. Its catering business then submitted a quotation and placed a bid shortly after. 

The airline said that they always value food’s safety and quality, and will be devoted to satisfying customers’ needs. 

The meals at the Penny Bay quarantine center were criticized for its poor quality and hygiene, and had caused food poisoning incidents. The provider Danny Catering was then changed. 

Secretary for Food and Health Sophia Chan Siu-chee today said that the case will be followed in a serious manner. 

The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department earlier initiated prosecution procedures and gave a verbal warning to the operator of Danny Catering, after officers found that its food processing factory was unclean and food was stored in inappropriate temperature. 

Officers also collected samples from food and environment for examination. All violations were corrected when officers inspected the factory again on May 10.
