Disqualified lawmaker Yau Wai-ching was said to have got married on April 23, after dating her boyfriend for four years.
According to reports, the groom is Matthew Lam - an online program host of the Hong Kong Indigenous localist group and former spokesman of the Spark Alliance, a crowd-funded initiative in support of pro-democracy protesters.
Yau, 29, was said to have met Lam, 28, in the political circle. She told reporters during a previous interview that Lam is a “soulmate” to her, thanking Lam for sticking by her side during her ups and downs.
In October 2016, Yau took her oath of office as lawmaker in a controversial way – which some considered derogatory to China – and spurred Beijing to take action, unseating her and her fellow party member Baggio Leung.
During a legislative meeting the next month, the pair and their assistants tried to barge into a meeting room of the Legislative Council to retake the oaths and failed.
The fallout from the incident continued, where the two ousted lawmakers and their assistants were sentenced to jail for four weeks over the storming of the meeting room.
Yau, after being released from jail, left politics and set foot in the trade business. Started selling retro cameras with Lam.
