Another accused, Ho Lik-wun, 15, was sentenced to a training center. Ho was convicted earlier of conspiracy to wound and pleaded guilty to using of a car without authority.
Lo had earlier pleaded guilty to three charges, including conspiracy to wound and using a car without authorization.
The attack took place while Sham was having lunch with friends at Via Restaurant on Tak Hing Street in Jordan on August 29 last year.
Sham was not injured because his friend blocked all three blows from a baseball bat with his left forearm, which resulted in tenderness and swelling.
District Court Judge Johnny Chan Jong-herng said this case is evil and serious, if not for the courage of Sham’s friend, Sham would have been seriously injured, as the two defendants carried a baseball bat and a 60cm-long butcher’s knife.
Chan said Lo hiring a minor for a crime is a reason to enhance the sentence. At the same time, the court has to set an example, to deter people from attacking others in the future based on their political differences.
Chan also noted that the teenager was following the orders of someone much older than him, and rehabilitation at a training centre would be more conducive than serving a prison term, RTHK reports.

Jimmy Sham Tsz-kit and his friend were attacked in late August last year while he was dining in Jordan with a friend.
