The grand 2022 Leader of the Year Awards ceremony was held at Grand Hyatt Hong Kong in Wan Chai on Wednesday night as the annual event organized by Sing Tao News Corp celebrated its 29th anniversary.
The awards, established 1994, recognize and encourage the achievements of Hong Kong’s finest individuals who have made outstanding contributions towards the SAR’s success and prosperity, linking it to mainland China and the international society.
Sing Tao, also celebrating its 85th anniversary this year, invited Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu and other prominent social elites and industry leaders to the ceremony.
Delivering a speech last night, Lee sent his sincerest regards to the winners and hoped they will continue to serve and contribute to Hong Kong’s developments.
Lee also said he would lead citizens to strive for the city’s economy and developments so that the public can have a greater sense of happiness and contentment.
Karson Choi Ka-tsan, chairman of Sing Tao News Corp, said this year also marks his first anniversary at the group and he has instructed the news teams to strive to provide reliable and unbiased information to the society to free Hong Kong from the disturbance of fake news.
Chairman Kwok Ying-shing also said Sing Tao will continue to abide by the objective and just journalism ideals and traditions, and focus more on citizens’ concerns and reflect the public’s demands.
This years’ winners are:
- Commerce & Industry / Finance: Diana Cesar, CEO of Hang Seng Bank
- Community / Public Affairs / Environment & Conservation: Senior Citizen Home Safety Association
- Education / Professions / Technology & Innovation: Liu Yun-hui, Director of CUHK’s T. Stone Robotics Institute
- Sports / Culture / Performing Arts: Olympian swimmer Siobhan Haughey
- Young Entrepreneur: Ricky Chiu Yin-to, Chairman & CEO of PHASE Scientific Int’l Ltd
