Grainge, 60, is receiving care at UCLA Medical Center, according to a person familiar with the matter.
A report on Grainge's diagnosis noted that Apple Inc head Tim Cook, Apple services chief Eddy Cue and music executive Irving Azoff attended the Universal Music CEO's 60th birthday party two weeks ago.
Grainge, who joined Universal more than 30 years ago, is widely considered to be the industry's most powerful record executive.
Universal has benefited from a music-industry resurgence, churning out hits from Billie Eilish, Post Malone and Ariana Grande.
Meanwhile, the daughter of Omaha billionaire Warren Buffett confirmed she has been exposed to Covid-19 and is now self-quarantining.
Susie Buffett said she feels fine and doesn't think she has contracted Covid-19.
Buffett also said she has not been around her father since her exposure, meaning he is unlikely to have been exposed.
