Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) announced its inaugural Battery and Energy Storage (BES) Strategic Analysis Report at One Earth Summit 2026, highlighting opportunities arising from the global low-carbon energy transition. Mr Terry Wong, Chief Executive Officer of HKSTP, presented the findings during his keynote address. With climate change, energy security concerns and rising electricity demand driving the growing importance of BES, related industry investment is expected to reach US$5 trillion, or nearly HK$40 trillion, over the next decade.
The report highlights Hong Kong’s comprehensive four-stage BES value chain: frontier R&D develops next-generation battery materials and technologies; integration and intelligence enable applications such as EV fast charging, supplementary power for ageing buildings and AI-based battery monitoring; project management and green finance support deployment and commercialisation; and end-of-life battery management advances recycling and resource recovery. Together, these capabilities position Hong Kong to capture global market opportunities while supporting a green circular economy.
Mr Terry Wong said HKSTP is fully committed to supporting the nation’s 15th Five-Year Plan, Hong Kong’s first Five-Year Plan, and the HKSAR Government’s Policy Address initiatives, as part of its mission to build Hong Kong into an international innovation and technology hub. By publishing its Strategic Analysis Report, HKSTP is identifying global industry opportunities while showcasing Hong Kong’s position as a leading energy storage ecosystem in Asia with a complete value chain. He added that HKSTP will continue to serve as both a “super-connector” and a “super value-adder”. HKSTP’s GreenTech Hub at the InnoCentre in Kowloon Tong will continue to serve as a bridge for cross-sector collaboration and commercialisation, and capture opportunities in the global multi-trillion-dollar energy storage market.

Green technology remains one of HKSTP’s core strategic industries. Its ecosystem includes more than 250 green tech companies, around 100 of which focus on BES. In response to growing demand driven by the global energy transition, HKSTP aims to increase the number of BES companies by 60% to more than 160 in the coming years. The ecosystem already includes three of the world’s top ten battery and energy storage leaders—CATL, BYD, and Gotion High-Tech—creating strong industrial synergies with park companies and deepening technology exchange, supply chain integration, and business matching.
Born out of Hong Kong’s world-class research and development, Luquos Energy is pioneering the commercial application of sulfur-based flow battery technology to meet the soaring energy storage demands driven by fast EV charging, AI data center backup power, and renewable energy integration.
“Our flow battery uses an aqueous electrolyte and earth-abundant elements to deliver a non-flammable, cost-effective energy storage solution with a long cycle life.” said Mei Jingming, Business Director of Luquos Energy Limited.
HKSTP continues to empower innovators to scale their market-ready solutions both locally and internationally. Luquos Energy’s systems are actively supporting a smart agricultural site in Yuen Long and a rooftop solar storage facility at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), demonstrating broad adaptability across urban and commercial microgrids.
