HKSTP kicks off 25th anniversary

Under the theme “Innovation. Next by Nature.”, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) kicked off its 25th Anniversary Prelude today with a landmark event, “Together to NEXT”, bringing together great minds and bold ideas to inspire what comes next for the city’s innovation ecosystem. The milestone was marked by the launch of a joint CB Insights–HKSTP white paper, which ranks Hong Kong first in Asia and fifth globally with a Mosaic score of 370.

Ms Cordelia Chung, Chairman of HKSTP, outlined her strategic vision to propel Hong Kong’s innovation and technology (I&T) ecosystem forward through four core dimensions: “Broad and Deep, Far yet Near”.

“Broad means building a diverse talent ecosystem where human minds leverage technology; Deep involves advancing tech-industry convergence; Far entails expanding our global footprint; and Near focuses on drawing the future nearer with immediate action. Our community is our heartbeat,” said Ms Chung.

She underscored that the true mission of HKSTP extends beyond providing one-stop infrastructure across its 240-hectare footprint to empowering start-ups at every stage of their scaling journey, ultimately translating research and development into impactful, real-world solutions.

Elaborating on the white paper’s findings, Mr Terry Wong, Chief Executive Officer of HKSTP, explained that CB Insights’ proprietary Mosaic score serves as a predictive model assessing tech start-ups’ commercial viability and potential to become unicorns. The index benchmarks more than 1,000 Hong Kong enterprises across four foundational pillars: business traction, financing capability, market momentum, and management team quality.

Highlighting Hong Kong’s strategic role alongside Mainland China’s technological prowess, Mr Wong emphasised the city’s unique competitive edge.

“Each market in Asia plays a distinct, vital role. While the Mainland demonstrates formidable leadership in AI, robotics, and industrialisation, Hong Kong continues to excel as a super-connector,” Mr Wong remarked. “Beyond I&T capabilities, Hong Kong’s traditional strengths in fundraising, sound legal frameworks, and transparent corporate governance provide the ideal springboard for start-ups to scale globally.”

Having grown into Hong Kong’s largest I&T ecosystem with over 2,600 start-ups, HKSTP reaffirmed its commitment to transforming research and development into real-world impact and consolidating Hong Kong’s position as an international innovation hub.
