BYD fuels Apple device line-up

China's electric car giant BYD (1211) is reported to have assembled more than 30 percent of Apple iPads, while BYD Electronic (0285) will take up orders for the smartphone maker's new products.

The EV maker said over 10,000 engineers and around 100,000 of the company's staff are working for businesses related to Apple.

BYD Electronic also recently won orders from Apple to be the sole assembler for its new HomePod smart speaker.

BYD also cooperates with the handset giant's competitor Samsung and produces such components as hinges for foldable phones.

Meanwhile, Indonesia has received an improved investment offer worth US$1 billion (HK$7.8 billion) from Apple, in the tech giant's latest bid to lift its ban on the sale of iPhone 16 devices.

In other news, Baidu (9888) released the new version of its Apollo platform based on the autonomous driving foundation model, and will offer lower-cost and higher-efficiency services to enterprises with auto driving businesses.

And loss-making SenseTime (0020) has completed a major restructuring aimed at ramping up its shift toward generative AI.
