Titled Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe, the film premiered in Japan on January 30, 2026, and will reach Hong Kong theaters on March 12, 2026. The movie follows the events of the first installment released in June 2021, which reintroduced audiences to the complex world of the Universal Century timeline.
Set in U.C.0105, twelve years after the events of Char’s Rebellion, the story centers on Hathaway Noa, the son of Bright Noa, the legendary captain of the White Base during the One Year War.
Once connected to the Earth Federation’s cause as a young boy, Hathaway has now become the leader of Mafty, a resistance organization opposing what it sees as the increasingly oppressive rule of the Federation over space colonists.
The sequel resumes the tense standoff between Hathaway and Federation commander Kenneth Sleg, who leads the military effort to eliminate Mafty and its mysterious leader. Their rivalry grows more complicated with the presence of Gigi Andalusia, a young woman whose unusual insight and influence begin to challenge Hathaway’s resolve.
Gigi’s words awaken memories of Hathaway’s past and force him to reflect on the ideals driving Mafty’s struggle. Even so, Hathaway continues preparing for a bold operation targeting a major political gathering at the Adelaide Conference, hoping to advance Mafty’s mission while confronting his own inner conflict.
At the same time, Kenneth develops strategies to defend the conference and capture Mafty’s elusive leader, while new political forces emerge behind the scenes. As the tension builds, Gigi also sets out on a journey of her own, traveling to Hong Kong as the unfolding events draw the three characters toward an inevitable confrontation.
The first Hathaway film placed strong emphasis on the political tensions between Earth and the space colonies, themes that have long shaped the Gundam saga. While the story explored ideological conflicts and moral uncertainty, its limited but striking mobile suit battles demonstrated some of the franchise’s most refined action sequences in recent years.
Early glimpses of the sequel suggest that the new film may deliver a greater balance between political intrigue and the dramatic mobile suit combat that defines the series. The continuing conflict between Mafty and the Federation also promises to deepen the franchise’s exploration of power, rebellion, and personal conviction within the Universal Century timeline.
As the second chapter of a planned trilogy, The Sorcery of Nymph Circe moves the story closer to its larger conclusion while expanding the emotional and political stakes surrounding Hathaway’s rebellion.
For long-time Gundam followers, the return to the Universal Century offers another chapter in one of anime’s most enduring narratives—where personal choices and ideological struggles unfold on a scale that spans both Earth and the vastness of space.
