Rainstorm warnings cancelled as afternoon classes resume as usual

The Hong Kong Observatory cancelled the amber rainstorm warning at 10.15am today after heavy downpours overnight driven by a low-pressure trough and an active southerly airstream.

All morning and full-day schools suspended classes after a red rainstorm signal was issued earlier, but the Education Bureau confirmed afternoon schools will proceed as usual. Schools were instructed to implement contingency plans to care for arrived students.

The Observatory warned of landslides on Po Toi Island due to exceptionally heavy rainfall, urging the public to stay away from slopes.

Meanwhile, Typhoon Saudel was centered about 430km east of Wenzhou at 5am, moving west across the East China Sea. Local weather will remain mostly cloudy with showers and squally thunderstorms today, with heavy rain in the morning and a maximum temperature of 31 degrees.
