A power outage struck the East Coast Boardwalk in North Point on Monday evening, leaving the pathway in complete darkness and forcing visitors to use phone torches to navigate.
The blackout began around dusk and affected the western section of the boardwalk near the Provident Centre, including the area from the movable bascule bridge to Oil Street exit. Power was not restored until about 10pm, with engineers seen conducting repairs on site.
The Development Bureau's Harbour Office received a security report around 7pm about the power supply issue affecting the lighting system. Additional staff were dispatched to assist visitors in leaving the affected area. Emergency repairs temporarily restored lighting by 10pm. The cause remains under investigation.

HK Electric stated its power supply has been normal throughout and sent engineers at the authority's request to provide necessary support.
The 2.2-kilometer East Coast Boardwalk stretches from Quarry Bay to Fortress Hill, divided into eastern and western sections. The western section, connecting the East Coast Park Precinct and North Point Promenade, opened in January last year. The eastern section, linking North Point Promenade to Hoi Yu Street in Quarry Bay, opened in December.
