The trial of three family members accused of murdering model and socialite Abby Choi Tin-fung is scheduled to begin on September 21, with proceedings expected to last 45 days.
The defendants — Choi’s former husband Alex Kwong Kong-chi, former father-in-law Kwong Kau, and former brother-in-law Anthony Kwong Kong-kit — are jointly charged with one count of murder and one count of preventing the lawful burial of a body.
All three appeared without legal representation at a High Court hearing on Tuesday.
A second case management hearing has been set for February 27 and is expected to last about 30 minutes. The full trial is due to commence on September 21.
The court heard that the trio is accused of murdering the 28-year-old on February 21, 2023, at a village house in Lung Mei, Tai Po. Prosecutors added the charge of preventing the lawful burial of a body in December of that year.
Choi’s killing shocked Hong Kong in February 2023, after her dismembered remains were discovered, sparking widespread public outrage.
