It is understood that the family is handling funeral arrangements privately, with a scheduled service taking place on January 26 in Longgang, Shenzhen.
In response to inquiries by Sing Tao Daily, the sister publication of The Standard, renowned filmmaker Tin Kai-man revealed he had only just been informed of the news upon returning to Hong Kong and has yet to contact Leung's family.
Acknowledging the family's wish for privacy, Tin declined to comment further, stating he awaited official information from them. He added that Leung had been in good health when they last met after a previous collaboration.
When asked about attending the Shenzhen funeral, Tin replied that it would depend on his schedule.
The sudden news came as a shock to fans, particularly as a photo from a social gathering was shared just one day before his passing.
The circulating picture, taken in Luohu, shows Leung smiling and giving a thumbs-up to the camera while sharing a hotpot with friends. He appeared in good spirits and was seen presenting a friend with his personally signed "True Kung Fu" calligraphy.
Known in the 1970s as one of Hong Kong's "Four Dragons" alongside Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and Ti Lung, Bruce Leung (born Leung Choi-sang) had established a multi-faceted career as an actor, stuntman, action choreographer, and director.
He rose to fame for his iconic portrayal of "Chen Zhen" in the classic TV series The Legendary Fok, renowned for his authentic kung fu skills.
After a period away from the industry focusing on business, Leung made a celebrated comeback as the formidable villain "The Beast" in Stephen Chow's blockbuster film Kung Fu Hustle, once again leaving a lasting impression on audiences.
