More GB/T chargers planned as Guangdong EVs enter Hong Kong

Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan announced that Hong Kong will facilitate the installation of more GB/T charging devices, as the first day's quota of 100 slots for eligible private cars under the “Southbound Travel for Guangdong Vehicles” was nearly fully utilized on Tuesday.

Chan noted that since the quota for the initial day was almost exhausted, authorities will closely monitor the situation during the upcoming Christmas and New Year's Day periods.

She also noted that most vehicles entering Hong Kong are electric. 

Hong Kong currently has 900 EV charging stations, including 40 GB/T units compliant with mainland standards.

Chan expressed confidence that the number of GB/T charging devices will continue to grow in the future to accommodate increasing demand.

Additionally, CLP is planning to introduce charging machines equipped with different plugs to enable simultaneous charging for various vehicle types, she added.
