Customs seizes smuggled kitten hidden in traveler's clothing

A 39-year-old man arriving from the mainland was arrested at Man Kam To Control Point on Friday after customs officers discovered a kitten concealed in a secret pocket of his clothes.

During a routine check in the arrival hall yesterday, staff stopped the incoming male traveler and found the young cat hidden inside his garment upon body search, leading to his immediate arrest.

The case has been handed over to the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department for further investigation.

Authorities reminded the public that importing animals into Hong Kong without a valid permit is illegal.

Under the Rabies Regulation, offenders face a maximum penalty of a HK$50,000 fine and one year in prison upon conviction.
