Hong Kong Customs seizes $5.4m worth of meth, arrests two

Hong Kong Customs has seized about 10 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine worth roughly HK$5.4 million at the Hong Kong International Airport and arrested two people in connection with the case.

The drugs were discovered on November 8 after officers conducted a risk-based inspection of an air cargo consignment from Vietnam that was declared as containing clothes and mainboards.

Upon examination, officers found two carton boxes labeled as seafood, with suspected methamphetamine hidden inside.

A 37-year-old male consignee was arrested at the scene. In a follow-up operation in Sham Shui Po, a 59-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of involvement in the case.

Both have been released on bail pending further investigation.

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, the maximum penalty for trafficking in a dangerous drug is a fine of HK$5 million and life imprisonment.
