The 15th National Games kicked off with enthusiasm as the torch relay began its journey through four cities, including a vibrant one-hour segment in Hong Kong on Sunday.
Leading the relay was table tennis star Wong Chun-ting, who expressed a a mix of joy and excitement for the event.
“I hope to set a good start,” Wong said, highlighting the significance of the torch, which represents a sacred flame symbolizing holiness. He also noted the importance of the diverse backgrounds of the torchbearers, reflecting Hong Kong’s rich cultural fabric.

As for epee fencer Kaylin Hsieh Sin-yan -- the final torchbearer -- she felt honored to play a pivotal role in the relay, recognizing the special meaning behind her position. “It symbolizes hope,” she remarked, sharing her wish for everyone to enjoy their journey of pursuing dreams during the Games.

Swimmer Stephanie Au Hoi-shun expressed a strong sense of pride and empowerment of being the 3rd torchbearer in her familiar surroundings. Despite the unpredictable weather during the relay, she viewed the strong flame as a good omen for the upcoming events.

Zheng Zhaokang, head coach of the Hong Kong fencing team, shared his pride in participating in the event, hoping that the team would secure their first gold medal at the Games.

Former basketball player Leung Kwok-shing also took part as a volunteer ambassador, feeling grateful for the opportunity to support the volunteer team through his role as a torchbearer.
