T3 signal to remain in force until 6pm on Tue: Observatory

The Observatory issued the Strong Wind Signal, No. 3 at 5.20pm on Monday (Oct 20) as Severe Tropical Storm Fengshen strengthened and continued to edge closer to the coast of Guangdong, and the T3 signal will remain in force at least until 6pm tomorrow (Oct 21).

Unless Fengshen adopts a track closer to the Pearl River Estuary or intensifies significantly, the chance of issuing higher Tropical Cyclone Warning Signals is relatively low, the forecaster added.

At 6pm, Fengshen was estimated to be about 430 kilometers south of Hong Kong and is forecast to move west or west-northwest at about 18 kilometers per hour across the northern part of the South China Sea.

Under the combined effect of Fengshen and the northeast monsoon, winds will be generally strong over the city tonight and on Tuesday, occassionally reaching gale force offshore and on high ground. 

The weather watchdog said that Fengshen will be closest to Hong Kong tonight to Tuesday morning, skirting at around 400 kilometers or more to the south of the territory.
