T3 signal to be hoisted at 5.20pm: Observatory

The Observatory will hoist the Strong Wind Signal, No. 3 at 5.20pm today as Tropical Cyclone Fengshen is edging closer to the Guangdong coast.

At noon, Fengshen was centered about 300 kilometers south-southwest of Dongsha. It is forecast to move west-northwest at about 18 kilometers per hour across the northern part of the South China Sea.

Under the combined effect of Fengshen and the monsoon, rain will be frequent tomorrow and early Wednesday, with strong winds expected over the next few days, the forecaster added.

Urban temperatures will drop to around 19 degrees, and a couple of degrees lower in the New Territories.

Due to the astronomical tide and the typhoon, some low-lying coastal areas may experience flooding.

Water levels over Victoria Harbour could rise to about three meters above chart datum from tomorrow night to Thursday.
