The Security Bureau plans to seek funding of HK$1.66 billion from the Legislative Council to support the works for government facilities at the Hong Kong port area in Huanggang Redevelopment Project, submitted to the Public Works Subcommittee.
The proposed works will take place in the Hong Kong area of the new Huanggang Port, covering a total built area of approximately 245,000 square meters for the development of government facilities for customs clearance, immigration, and quarantine services.
Facilities include vehicle cargo x-ray examination systems, automated vehicle clearance support systems and inbound kiosks.
If the funding is approved, the project is expected to be completed within a year, the Security Bureau stated.
The superstructure of the new Huanggang Port building is currently under construction, aiming for substantial completion by the end of 2025. Hong Kong's engineering departments are expected to begin work on the interior of the building and install necessary facilities in the fourth quarter of this year.
The specific arrangements and timeline for the opening of the new Huanggang Port are still under discussion between the Hong Kong and Shenzhen governments.
The Security Bureau is initiating the legislative preparations and maintaining close communication with the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government, the Department of Justice, and relevant policy bureaus.
