Wipha brings heavy rain to HK as it moves towards Vietnam

More than 20 millimeters of rainfall were recorded in some areas this morning as the outer rainbands of Severe Tropical Storm Wipha continued to affect the coast of Guangdong.

Two lanes on 44 Kennedy Road experienced flooding, with water levels reaching 2 feet at one point.

Wipha is forecasted to move across Beibu Wan and towards the northern part of Vietnam on Tuesday (Jul 22). However, the Observatory stated that a broad trough of low pressure will bring showers and thunderstorms to the coast of southern China and the northern part of the South China Sea over the next couple of days.

It will be very hot during the day over the coast of Guangdong towards the weekend, the forecaster added. 

At noon, Wipha was centered about 90 kilometers west of Zhanjiang. It is forecast to move west-southwest at about 14 kilometres per hour across Beibu Wan.
