As Tropical Storm Wipha barrels toward the Pearl River Delta, the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) has issued the No. 3 Strong Wind Signal, with plans to escalate to the No. 8 Gale or Storm Signal between midnight and 2am Sunday.
The approaching storm has triggered widespread flight disruptions, with major airlines preemptively canceling services.
Cathay Pacific announced all flights scheduled to depart or arrive in Hong Kong between 5am and 6pm Sunday will face delays or cancellations.
The airline warned of high call volumes and urged passengers to avoid phone inquiries, noting that rebooking efforts are underway. Affected travelers will receive updates via SMS and email.
EVA Air also announced cancellations, axing at least 20 flights to and from Taipei and Kaohsiung over today and Sunday.
The carrier advised passengers to check its website for real-time updates before heading to airports.
