A 20-year-old motorcyclist died on the spot after being struck by a container truck in Tsing Yi Nam Wan Tunnel toward Kowloon during Friday morning rush hour.
The incident occurred at 8.39am when the victim, reportedly sheltering from rain under a tunnel bridge shoulder, pulled his scooter into the left lane after donning rain gear.
Witnesses stated a container truck traveling in the same direction collided violently with the motorcycle, dragging both rider and vehicle approximately 100 meters.
During the impact, the truck skidded across lanes, striking the left front end of a black sedan in the third lane with its rear right section before halting. The motorcyclist suffered fatal head injuries at the scene.
After an investigation, the 61-year-old truck driver was arrested by police for dangerous driving causing death and taken to the police station in a patrol car for further questioning.
Police are investigating the cause of the collision amid rainy conditions. All lanes were temporarily closed during the emergency response, causing significant traffic delays toward Kowloon.
