Taxi driver deceives passenger by passing off $10 MOP note as HK$100 bill

A woman recently brought to light a deceptive practice employed by a taxi driver to defraud passengers. She discovered that the driver passed off a red-colored $10 Macau pataca note as a HK$100 banknote in change.

In a social media post on Tuesday (Jun 3), the poster recounted her experience of taking a taxi from Tseung Kwan O to Kowloon Bay, where the fare amounted to approximately HK$100. 

After paying with a HK$500 banknote, she received change from the driver, which included the $10 Macau pataca note.

She noted that the driver placed the MOP note among other Hong Kong dollar bills, leading her to overlook the discrepancy until later. 

She has since urged others to remain vigilant when receiving change after using a taxi ride.
