Zheng Yanxiong, former Liaison Office chief, is set to take on a new role under the National People's Congress.
He is expected to assume the position of Deputy Director of a specialized committee under the NPC in Beijing, according to sources.
The State Council announced late last Saturday that Zhou Ji, the Executive Deputy Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Central Committee, has been appointed as the new Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Hong Kong, replacing Zheng Yanxiong.
It is reported that the NPC Standing Committee will hold a meeting later this month, during which Zheng’s new appointment is expected to be officially confirmed. Zheng himself is also an NPC deputy.
Born in August 1963 in Shantou, Guangdong, Zheng previously served as the Party Secretary of Shanwei City in Guangdong, as well as a Standing Committee member and Secretary-General of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee. In July 2020, he came to Hong Kong as the inaugural Director of the Office for Safeguarding National Security of the Central People's Government in Hong Kong. He was promoted to Director of the Hong Kong Liaison Office in January 2023.
