As the inaugural World Internet Conference (WIC) Asia Pacific Summit kicked off on Monday, chief executive of Groupe Speciale Mobile Association (GSMA) John Hoffman praised the city for being a "truly global city" to host the event.
"There is no better place to host such a Summit than here in Hong Kong," the CEO said. "There is always such an exciting energy in this truly global city, the pearl of the Orient."
Hoffman also announced that the Association has established a community platform comprising 12 industry representatives to help businesses explore AI applications and set industry standards.
Expressing gratitude for the support from stakeholders in China, he highlighted that China Mobile, China Telecom, and China Unicom have always been pioneers in the field.
The event has brought around 1,000 representatives from governments, industries and technology organizations, including Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu, director of Beijing's liaison office in Hong Kong Zheng Yanxiong, and Vice-Chairman of the World Internet Conference Francis Gurry.
