A 37-year-old man fell to his death after forcing open a window at Panda Hotel in Tsuen Wan on Sunday morning, while his 36-year-old wife and their two young sons, aged six and three, were found lifeless inside the room.
Police received reports around midnight from the deceased man’s friends, who discovered that the man had expressed suicidal intentions on social media due to the overwhelming pressure.
The man was initially conscious after the fall at around 4.45am, with visible signs of bleeding. However, he later lost consciousness and was rushed to Yan Chai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Officers found the bodies of his wife and two sons in the room, each suffering from cuts to their necks and bodies. A 24-centimeter-long knife with blood was also recovered at the scene.
The window was wide open, and bloodstains were also found on the curtain and the wall of the hotel room.
It was learned that the man, surnamed Kei, has served in various disciplinary forces and officially left his post as a Customs inspector in mid-July.
Sources said Kei joined the Customs in 2009 before transferring to the Fire Services Department as a Senior Fireman (Control). He later served as a correctional officer and became a Customs inspector in 2016.
The case has been classified as murder and suicide. Police added that the man, currently unemployed, rented the hotel room from mid-May to early August to prepare for emigration. He possesses no history of domestic violence or significant financial difficulties.
Prior to the incident, he expressed concerns on social media regarding his emotional well-being and his ability to care for his family. It is initially believed that the motive behind the tragedy was linked to emotional challenges, and further investigations will be conducted to gain additional insights.
